WEEE Registration
Polish WEEE regulations require producers to register in the BDO system and join an approved organisation for the collection and treatment of waste electronics. The registration authority is GIOS. Producers must declare equipment categories, estimated volumes, and brand names. Annual reporting of products placed on the market and waste collected is mandatory.

Packaging Registration
Packaging EPR in Poland requires producers to register in BDO and either join a recovery organisation or fulfil recycling obligations independently. Most non-Polish producers join a recovery organisation that manages the collection and recycling obligations on their behalf. Annual declarations of packaging types, materials, and weights are required.

Battery Registration
Battery producers must register in BDO and join an approved battery collection scheme. Poland's battery regulations follow EU transposition of the Battery Regulation, requiring separate producer registration and financial contributions for collection and recycling.
The BDO System — Poland's Central Waste Database
BDO (Baza Danych o Odpadach — Waste Database) is Poland's central electronic system for tracking waste management obligations. Launched in 2020, BDO replaced the previous paper-based reporting system and consolidated all waste-related registrations, declarations, and reports into a single digital platform.
All producers with EPR obligations must hold an active BDO registration. The BDO number is required for marketplace compliance verification, customs clearance, and invoicing. Without a valid BDO number, sellers cannot legally place products subject to EPR regulations on the Polish market.
BDO registration is administered by the Marshal's Office (Urząd Marszałkowski) of the relevant voivodeship. For non-Polish companies, an authorised representative established in Poland or another EU member state is required.
Polish WEEE — GIOŚ Oversight and Collection Organisations
The Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection (Główny Inspektorat Ochrony Środowiska — GIOŚ) oversees EPR enforcement in Poland. GIOŚ conducts compliance audits, processes registrations, and enforces penalties for non-compliance. Penalties for failure to register or report can include administrative fines and restrictions on market access.
WEEE producers must join an approved collection organisation (organizacja odzysku) that manages the collection and recycling of waste electronics. The collection organisation handles the operational obligations — collection points, transport, treatment facilities — while the producer funds these activities through membership fees and per-unit contributions.
Amazon.pl — The Fastest Growing EU Marketplace
Amazon Poland launched in 2021 and has experienced rapid growth, driven by Poland's large population (38 million) and growing e-commerce adoption. As the marketplace matures, EPR enforcement is tightening in line with the patterns established in France and Germany.
Amazon.pl requires valid EPR registration numbers for electrical products and is progressively extending compliance checks to packaging and battery categories. Sellers who established listings during the early, less-enforced period of Amazon Poland should ensure their EPR registrations are current.
BDO Reporting — Annual Declarations and Waste Records
BDO requires annual reporting of products placed on the Polish market, categorised by waste stream. WEEE producers declare the number and weight of electrical equipment by category. Packaging producers declare packaging materials and weights. Battery producers declare battery types, chemistry, and volumes. All declarations are submitted electronically through the BDO platform.
Reports are due by 15 March for the preceding calendar year. Late submissions trigger automatic penalty notices from the Marshal's Office. Persistent non-reporting can result in suspension of your BDO registration, which invalidates your marketplace compliance status. View pricing for reporting here →
Voivodeship Registration — Regional Administration
BDO registration is administered by the Marshal's Office (Urząd Marszałkowski) of the voivodeship where the producer or their authorised representative is established. For non-Polish companies, the relevant voivodeship is determined by the authorised representative's registered address. Eldris coordinates with the appropriate Marshal's Office for your registration, handling all correspondence in Polish.
Poland's E-Commerce Growth and Compliance Outlook
The Polish government has responded to rapid e-commerce growth by strengthening EPR enforcement, with GIOŚ conducting targeted audits of marketplace sellers and cross-referencing BDO registrations against Amazon.pl seller data.
Early entrants to Amazon Poland who listed products without EPR compliance face increasing enforcement risk. Retroactive compliance requirements have been applied in other EU marketplaces as they matured — sellers should not assume that early non-enforcement will continue.
