EPR Registration
France
France is the second largest EU Amazon marketplace. French EPR operates through a system of approved eco-organisms — accredited bodies that manage the collection and recycling of waste on behalf of producers.

How French EPR Works
The French EPR registration system is coordinated by ADEME (Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maitrise de l'Energie) through the SYDEREP registration platform. Producers must register on SYDEREP and then contract with an approved eco-organism for each waste stream they are obligated under.
For WEEE, the approved eco-organisms are Ecosystem and Ecologic. For batteries, producers register with Corepile or Screlec. For packaging, the two approved eco-organisms are Citeo and Leko. Each eco-organism collects eco-contribution fees from producers based on the volume and type of products placed on the market.
Non-EU producers must appoint an authorised representative established in the EU before registering. The authorised representative assumes legal responsibility for the producer's EPR obligations in France.

French EPR Scope — What Products Are Covered
France has one of the broadest EPR frameworks in Europe. Beyond WEEE, batteries, and packaging, France also operates EPR schemes for textiles, furniture, toys, sporting goods, DIY products, and single-use plastics. The AGEC law (Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy, 2020) significantly expanded EPR obligations and introduced new requirements including product repairability scoring and restrictions on the destruction of unsold goods.
For Amazon sellers, the primary EPR obligations are WEEE (Directive DEEE), batteries (filière piles et accumulateurs), and packaging (filière emballages). If you sell furniture, textiles, or toys into France, additional EPR streams may apply. Eldris advises during onboarding which French EPR schemes are relevant to your product range.
Eco-Contribution Fees in France
French eco-organisms charge eco-contribution fees (éco-contributions) based on product type, weight, and the number of units placed on the French market. Rates are published annually by each eco-organism and vary by product category. For WEEE, contributions typically range from €0.01 to €13.00 per unit depending on equipment type and size. For packaging, contributions are calculated per tonne of packaging material placed on market, with rates varying by material type.
These fees fund the collection and recycling infrastructure across France. They are separate from Eldris service fees and are invoiced by the eco-organism directly or passed through by Eldris at cost.
The UIN — Your French EPR Identity
Upon registration with SYDEREP, producers receive a Unique Identifier Number (UIN) — the French equivalent of Germany's WEEE-Reg.-Nr. The UIN is the registration number you provide to Amazon.fr for compliance verification. Each EPR stream (WEEE, batteries, packaging) generates its own UIN, so a producer registered across all three streams holds three separate UINs in France.
Amazon France validates UINs against the SYDEREP database. Invalid or missing UINs result in listing restrictions. Eldris delivers your UINs to your dashboard immediately upon ADEME confirmation, formatted for Seller Central upload.
French Reporting Cycles and Deadlines
French eco-organisms operate on an annual declaration cycle. Producers must submit their annual market data — units and weight of products placed on the French market — to each eco-organism by the deadline specified in their membership agreement, typically in the first quarter following the reporting year.
Eco-contribution invoices are calculated from these declarations. Late declarations result in penalty fees from the eco-organism and potential referral to ADEME for enforcement action. Persistent non-reporting can lead to loss of eco-organism membership, which invalidates your UIN and your Amazon.fr compliance status.
Eldris tracks all French reporting deadlines, prepares declarations from your sales data, submits them to each eco-organism, and confirms receipt. Volume data templates are provided through your Eldris dashboard.
Cross-Border Selling — France and Germany
Sellers registered in Germany who also sell on Amazon.fr need separate French registrations. German WEEE registration does not cover France. However, the business data collected during German onboarding through Eldris is reused for French registration — you do not need to complete a second onboarding form. Eldris maps your existing product and business data to the French requirements automatically.
Amazon.fr Compliance
Amazon France requires sellers of electrical equipment to provide valid EPR registration numbers. Listings without valid numbers are subject to removal. Amazon may also enrol non-compliant sellers in its Pay on Behalf programme, deducting eco-contribution fees at potentially higher rates than direct eco-organism membership.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does EPR work in France?
France operates an eco-organism system coordinated by ADEME through the SYDEREP registration platform. Producers register on SYDEREP and join approved eco-organisms for each waste stream — Ecosystem or Ecologic for WEEE, Corepile or Screlec for batteries, and Citeo or Leko for packaging.
Do I need a French authorised representative?
Yes. Non-EU producers must appoint an authorised representative established in the EU to fulfil their EPR obligations in France. The authorised representative is named on the SYDEREP registration and assumes legal responsibility for compliance.
What are the reporting requirements in France?
Annual declarations to each eco-organism covering the number and weight of products placed on the French market during the calendar year, categorised by type. Declarations are typically due in the first quarter following the reporting year.
What is the AGEC law?
The AGEC law (Loi Anti-Gaspillage pour une Économie Circulaire) is France's 2020 anti-waste legislation. It expanded EPR scope to new product categories and increased penalties for non-compliance. It significantly broadened the obligations for producers selling into France.
Can I use my German WEEE number in France?
No. German and French EPR registrations are entirely separate. A Stiftung EAR WEEE-Reg.-Nr. is not valid in France. You need a French UIN from SYDEREP for each EPR stream. Eldris handles both registrations from a single onboarding.
How much do French eco-contributions cost?
Eco-contribution rates vary by product category and eco-organism. For WEEE, contributions range from approximately €0.01 per unit to €13.00 for large appliances. Eldris provides estimated contribution costs during onboarding.
